January 1st 2015…I’ve fallen off the low carb wagon over the last 3 months, thinking somehow I was now immune to the effects of carbs. And how wrong I was!!!! My clothes have gradually been feeling tighter and I hadn’t done my usual weigh in for a while. I knew I was going to have to shift some Christmas pounds in January, but I was a bit shocked to learn this morning that I weighed 14 and a half stone!!! I’ve put 1 and a quarter stone in the last 3 months! Oh s**t.
So time to go back to my principles of low carb eating to shed these pounds and get back to 13st. I reckon this will take around 3 months to lose at a fairly conservative rates of 2 pounds weight loss per week.
This means a target net carbs of 30g per day, including 2 fast days per week. I may introduce a cheat day in February but certainly not before hand.
30g of net carbs per day is not easy to achieve – a slice of white bread has 15-20g! No bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes, nothing with added sugar, no fruit, only berries. For January at least, I’m also on a self imposed alcohol and coffee ban (just to prove I can), drinking only green tea, herbal teas and water.
I plan to do daily blogs on what I’m eating as a means of keeping track.
I’ve been nursing a horrendous hangover today which has actually helps with the whole eating thing. It’s not quite a 24 hour fast as I was still drinking at 3am and I’ve just had a spot of dinner at 6pm so more like an 16 hour fast!
So Jan 1st, I’ve eaten a bit of a homemade beef stew, including carrots and the old low carb favourite, stir fried grated cauliflower. The cauliflower has 16g of net cars per medium head, so across 4 of us, that’s only 4g. Plus carrots have 3g of net carbs in half a cup of cooked carrots, so another 3g to the 4g. Day one then I’ve managed to consume only 7g!
