Approaching almost the end of my first week of trying to shed the Xmas pounds, and so far I’ve managed to lose 4 llbs which gets me to my first milestone of 13 st. Not a bad start, although as previously blogged, most of this is just water. That leaves me 7 more pounds to lose in the remaining three weeks of the month to hit my target. This will be more tricky, as I need to lose more than 2 pounds per week to achieve this. Difficult, but not impossible.
I’ve not actually been as strict with myself these past few days as I would have liked. I’ve skipped breakfast most days, the only day I did have breakfast I had a slice of wholemeal toast with peanut butter (with no added sugar). Lunches have generally consisted of some form of grilled meat / fish with loads of vegetable (no potatoes). Dinner has normally been a soup of some description with an occasional salad. But I’ve found myself snacking big time in the evening, snacking on nuts normally, but probably eating too many (150g on average!). And snacking on various Italian meats such as Parma Ham and Salami. I’ve suffered from more food cravings than I used to which is why I’ve been less strict than I wanted to be – I think this might be to do with all my dietary indulgences in the preceding weeks, so cutting back the carbs so severely may have created a carb comedown. This has surprised me a bit because I thought I’d overcome that two years ago when I first started following a low carb / primal type of approach to food. Just goes to show how quickly you can become dependent on this stuff.
Still, I’ve managed to stay off all things with added sugar (apart from a couple of profiteroles earlier today for my father in law’s birthday – each profiterole only had 5g of carbs, so actually not too bad), no pasta, a couple of slides of bread, no pasta, rice or potatoes, and no alcohol.
I’m back at work tomorrow, so hopefully that will make things a bit easier as there will be less time to snack. Also, I’m hoping the food cravings start to go away.
